Nigerians Storm Ministry of Justice, Protests Prosecution of Blogger Justice Crack 

Nigerians in Abuja have expressed public anger over the arrest and prosecution of blogger Justice Mark Chidiebere, popularly known as Justice Crack, after Justice Joyce Abdulmalik ordered his remand in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).

In protest, demonstrators including human rights activist Omoyele Sowore stormed the Federal Ministry of Justice and occupied its premises.

Other activists also began arriving at the ministry, demanding that the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), immediately discontinue the case and secure Chidiebere’s release.

Earlier on Monday, Justice Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja ordered that Chidiebere be remanded in DSS custody after he was arraigned on incitement charges.

Members of the Take It Back Movement staged a protest outside the court, demanding the immediate release of the blogger.

The protesters chanted solidarity songs and called on authorities to free him.

“Release Justice Crack! He is innocent!” the protesters shouted.

The arraignment marks the latest development in the controversial case involving the activist, who was earlier handed over to the DSS by the Nigerian Army amid allegations of torture.

SaharaReporters had reported that the Army transferred him to the secret police amid widespread outrage over claims that he was chained to a tree under the sun for over 72 hours while in military custody.

Sowore had accused security agencies of attempting to legitimise what he described as unlawful detention and abuse.
