Lawyer Slams FG Over Missing NYSC Member in Abuja, Faults Security Deployment to Southeast

ABUJA — Human rights lawyer Ikechukwu Obasi has criticised the federal government over its failure to guarantee the security of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member and lawyer Miss Eunice Ameh serving at the Federal Capital Territory, while accusing it of over-militarising the Southeast.
In a post on his official X handle, Obasi wrote: “It is pathetic that Nigeria’s state couldn’t guarantee the security of an NYSC member and lawyer in the FCT Abuja whereas dispatching to Southeast where there’s least insecurity to unnecessarily militarise.”
He urged the security operatives to swiftly swing into action and ensure Ameh’s immediate rescue, describing the situation as “so shameful.”
Miss Ameh, a young lawyer undergoing her NYSC, was recently reported missing. Recall that the Nigerian Bar Association had earlier urged the Inspector General of Police to urgently deploy tactical and intelligence resources to secure her release.
Obasi, who is popularly known for public interest action, has been vocal on issues of human rights, rights of children, and rule of law in Nigeria.
Security agencies have not released details on the circumstances of Ameh’s disappearance as of press time.
