Peter Obi’s 2023 Vote Shows Rapid Support For Nnamdi Kanu, Says Lawyer

ABUJA —  Barr. Aloy Ejimakor, the Special counsel to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has argued that Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi’s performance in the 2023 election is evidence of widespread public support for the release of the jailed IPOB leader.

In a post on his official X handle, Ejimakor wrote “Obi secured over 6m votes in 2023” and that those voters have “transformed into a permanent block that may more than double in 2027.”

He further noted that Obi achieved that result “despite calling for the release of MAZI NNAMDI KANU,” and described it as “the best indirect evidence that millions across Nigeria are in favor of #FreeNnamdiKanu, not the opposite as some detractors would want it to be.”

Obi, who ran on a platform of reducing waste and addressing insecurity, finished third in the 2023 presidential election with 6,101,533 votes according to the Independent National Electoral Commission. He has repeatedly called for Kanu’s release and for a political solution to the case against the IPOB leader.
