FCT High Court Fixes April 1 For Hearing In ₦200m Rights Suit Against Tonto Dikeh Over Alleged Exorcism of Schoolgirl

Abuja —The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court has scheduled April 1, 2026 for hearing of the fundamental rights suit filed by human-rights lawyer Ikechukwu Obasi against Nollywood Actress Tonto Dikeh over a viral video of deliverance ritual involving a Junior Secondary School (JSS1) student.

Obasi, who is suing on behalf of the child, said on Thursday in an update on his official X handle that he had “just been served hearing notice by the FCT High Court” and confirmed the matter is now “fixed for hearing 1/04/2026.” He added: “I’m grateful for the opportunity to test the law on child dignity/privacy. Justice!!!”

The case, brought under the Fundamental Rights (Enforcement Procedure) Rules 2009, stems from a March 6, 2026 video Dikeh posted on her official Facebook page showing her conducting a spiritual “exorcism” on the schoolgirl in Abuja. The suit alleges violations of the child’s dignity and privacy as guaranteed under the 1999 Constitution and the Child Rights Act 2003.

The rights suit seeks, among other reliefs, a declaration that the child’s rights were breached, an order compelling removal of the footage and photos, a perpetual injunction, a public apology, and ₦200 million in damages.

Obasi said his legal team will ask Dikeh to “explain to the Court how seeing bats, a sort of visual hallucination which is the subject matter for psychologists or psychotherapists or medical experts to handle becomes a demonic possession.” He stressed that the matter is now _sub judice_: “Tonto will explain.”
