Lawyer Blows Hot Warns X Against Arbitrary Suspension After Ejimakor’s Alleged Shadow Ban

ABUJA — Human rights lawyer Ikechukwu Obasi has cautioned that social media platform X should “be ready for a lawsuit” if it arbitrarily suspends user accounts “for no just cause.”

Obasi made the comment on his official X handle in response to a post by Aloy Ejimakor, special counsel to Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Ejimakor had posted earlier on his official X handle that his account was being shadow-banned after mass-reporting by groups opposed to his posts on Kanu, and more recently by those “angered by my post on @sowore & the dangerous fallacy called ‘repentant terrorists’.” Ejimakor wrote: “So, I’m being shadow-banned but no worries, no retreat.”

Reacting to the post, Obasi wrote: “If X suspends your account for no just cause there should be ready for a lawsuit. X an engine of freedom of expression can’t be compromised under Elon Musk. We’re watching.”

Ejimakor has represented Kanu since his arrest and consequent imprisonment by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court on terrorism charges.

Obasi has filed several public interest cases, including a ₦2 billion suit in January 2026 against the Anambra State Government over the closure of Onitsha Main Market, and a ₦200 million suit in March 2026 against actress Tonto Dikeh over a religious exorcism involving a schoolgirl.

Shadow-banning refers to the practice of limiting a user’s reach without formal suspension or notification. X’s policy states it may reduce the visibility of posts that violate its rules. X has not issued a statement on Ejimakor’s allegation or Obasi’s comments.
