Ejimakor Defends Media Updates, Says Kanu’s Case Must Be Fought in Court, Public Opinion

Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, the special counsel to IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has frequent media update on Kanu’s case by the legal pointing out that the case against his client requires to be argued both in court and in the public domain.

In an update on his official X handle, Ejimakor addressed critics who advise lawyers to avoid media engagement and focus only on courtroom proceedings. He wrote:

“If you’re one of those telling lawyers to shun the media & limit themselves to fighting MAZI NNAMDI KANU’s case only in Court, hear this: As this case is being fought in the court of law, it will also continue to be fought in the court of public opinion.”

Ejimakor further vehemently argued that the case is “more political than legal” and that Kanu, “like the other greats such as Nelson Mandela, deserves robust public discussion of the grave injustice done to him.”

The struggles of the IPOB leader Kanu has often been compared to that of Nelson Mandela of South Africa. Mandela was no doubt anti-apartheid agitators while Kanu agitates for the restoration of the defunct sovereign state of Biafra which surrendered to Nigeria in 1970 to avert ongoing pogrom.

The statement adds to ongoing public commentary around Kanu’s ordeals in the hands of the Nigerian government. Many people have called for his unconditional release and political solutions to be adopted to tackle his agitation.
