Lawyer Condemns Child Exorcism, Says “Keep Children Out of Your Religious Lunacy”

ABUJA — Human rights lawyer Ikechukwu Obasi has reacted to reports of a vicious child exorcism in Ebonyi State, calling for children to be protected from harmful religious practices.

In a post on his official X handle, Obasi wrote:
“My new advocacy. Keep children out of your religious lunacy. If you like kill yourself as a religious adult it’s your right. After all there’s clamour for Assisted Dying in UK. But let the children breathe. You birthed them without their consent and still want to suffocate them.”

The post was made in response to news of a viral video allegedly showing a sick child being abused during a religious exorcism in Isohumini Izzi, Ebonyi State. Obasi has previously called for the shutdown of the church involved and prosecution of the cleric.

Aside the call for the shutdown and prosecution of the said cleric, he has reiterated the need to protect child’s welfare while admonishing Nigerians to cease and desist from subjecting children to harmful religious practices.
