Obasi Hails ‘Cerebral’ Kanu’s Counsel Ejimakor, Says Recognition Is ‘Well Deserved’
ABUJA — Human-rights lawyer Ikechukwu Obasi has publicly praised Aloy Ejimakor, special counsel to the jailed IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, calling him cerebral and hard-working and saying recent recognition of his work is overdue and well deserved.
“A replica of strong legal fireworks from the cerebral very learned special counsel to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu @AloyEjimakor,” Obasi wrote on his official X handle, that he tagged the lawyer. “Recognition of @AloyEjimakor is well deserved. Hardworking pays.” he added.
The commendation lands amid recent recognition of Ejimakor as topping Nnamdi Kanu’s legal team with multiple court and international victories.
Recall that before the controversial conviction by Justice James Omotosho of the Abuja Federal High Court, Kanu’s legal battle has stretched through multiple court dates, interlocutory rulings and international advocacy since his 2021 rendition.
Ejimakor has been a visible face of the defence, issuing statements on court proceedings, jurisdictional questions and the conditions of Kanu’s detention, and pushing back against narratives from government and rival commentators.
He bagged several victories ranging from Abia State High Court victory, Abia Federal High Court, and Enugu State Federal High Court, as well as his victory at African Commission on Human and Peoples Rights. Ejimakor’s advocacy also included the petition to UN special Rapporteur on Extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions over the bloody Operation Python Dance II.
Obasi’s post casts Ejimakor’s courtroom advocacy and multiple victories as “legal fireworks”—a nod to the combative filings, press briefings and public legal analysis that have kept Kanu’s case in the headlines. It also positions the praise within a broader theme Obasi has struck in recent commentary: deference to Kanu’s recognised legal team as the legitimate channel for strategy and public messaging.
The short message, adds to a steady stream of endorsements Ejimakor has drawn from the public who view the special counsel as central to keeping the legal and human-rights abuses associated with Kanu’s detention in public view.
