Kanu’s Lawyer Demands Probe Into Mene Ogidi Killing, Cites ‘Off-Camera’ Atrocities in Southeast

ABUJA — Aloy Ejimakor, Special Counsel to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has called for a full investigation into the killing of Mene Ogidi, alleging the 28-year-old may have been “murdered to silence him from implicating persons in position of authority.”

Ejimakor made the comments in multiple posts on his official X handle after IGP Disu announced the dismissal and prosecution of ASP Nuhu Usman for the “on-camera murder of a shackled Mene Ogidi in Delta.”

“As IGP Disu announces the dismissal/prosecution of officer Usman for the on-camera murder of a shackled Mene Ogidi in Delta, let the outrage go round & reach Southeast where this sort of atrocity is rampant. The only difference being that it’s all off-camera,” he wrote.

He urged investigators to go beyond the officer’s actions: “It appears the #MeneOgidi was murdered to silence him from implicating persons in position of power. This also needs to be investigated to the hilt.”

Ejimakor drew parallels to the Arab Spring, warning of potential unrest if impunity continues. “This is reminiscent of the isolated impunity that triggered the Arab Spring. So, the authorities better be careful & just, because a spontaneous revolution is not impossible,” he stated.

He concluded with a call for systemic change: “Finally, let there be a radical police (personnel) reform that would henceforth make this sort of atrocity very rare.”

The statements follow a viral video showing ASP Usman shooting Ogidi while the victim knelt with his hands tied and pleaded for his life in Effurun, Delta State. The Delta State Police Command confirmed Usman’s arrest and transfer to Abuja to face a Force Disciplinary Committee under Force Order 237.

Ejimakor’s remarks add to mounting public reaction from lawyers and analysts demanding accountability. The Nigeria Police Force has not commented on the claim that Ogidi was killed to shield powerful individuals.
