Activist Sowore Blasts MTN Nigeria Accuses Telecom of ‘Daylight Robbery’ Data Theft 

ABUJA — Human Rights Activist, Publisher, and AAC Presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has accused MTN Nigeria of “daylight robbery” against subscribers, describing the company’s practices as “exploitative.”

In a widely circulated post on his official media handle, Sowore wrote:

_“Yes, MTN Nigeria is engaging in what can only be described as daylight robbery against subscribers in Nigeria. It represents one of the worst forms of exploitative, scorched-earth business practices. MTN Is Data Thief! #AACOURPARTY”_

Sowore is the publisher of Sahara Reporters and national chairman of the African Action Congress (AAC). He has frequently criticized government policy and corporate conduct in Nigeria.

MTN Nigeria is the country’s largest telecommunications operator by subscriber base. The company has previously faced complaints from subscribers over data depletion rates and tariff changes. In October 2024, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) directed mobile operators to simplify tariff plans and improve billing transparency following public complaints.

The hashtag #AACOURPARTY included in Sowore’s post refers to his political party, the African Action Congress.

MTN Nigeria has not issued a response to the statement. However, the NCC is the regulatory body for telecommunications operators in Nigeria.
