Lawyer Blows Hot, Demands Probe Of Amichi Pastor Over Alleged Rape, Blames Superstition, Poor Governance
ABUJA – Human rights lawyer Ikechukwu Obasi has called for a government probe into a _Punch_ report alleging that a church pastor in Amichi raped a schoolchild on a church altar while claiming to be “removing seven marine spirits.”
Reacting via his official X handle, Obasi urged parents to “stop exposing their children to what he described as “state-recognised fraudsters claiming to do miracles.” He added: “The best miracle, spiritual cleansing and deliverance needed is good governance. Have a better country, all these shenanigans will end.”
Obasi contrasted Nigeria with Western nations, stating that “Rome, UK and America where Catholicism, Protestantism, Pentecostalism and orthodox churches” are established “no longer believe in superstition in this 21st century.”
He described the alleged incident as “wanton exposure of children to religious schizophrenics”
He further disclosed that as; “one of the reasons I sued Tonto Dikeh.” Obasi filed a ₦200 million suit against actress Tonto Dikeh in March 2026 at the FCT High Court, alleging she violated a JSS 1 student’s rights during a filmed deliverance in Abuja. The case was adjourned to May 11, 2026.
The lawyer urged the Ministry of Women Affairs to “investigate this allegation and bring the cleric to book,” adding that authorities should “not just go after African traditional worshippers.”
Background
The _Punch_ report referenced by Obasi alleged that the Amichi-based pastor assaulted the minor during a deliverance session on the church altar.
Obasi is the Applicant in the fundamental rights suit against Dikeh, which seeks ₦200 million in damages, a public apology, and removal of videos from her social media.
The Ministry of Women Affairs had not responded to Obasi’s call for an investigation at the time of filing this report.
