Lawyer Calls Supreme Court Ruling a ‘Greek Gift,’ Warns of More ADC Litigation

ABUJA — Human Rights Lawyer Ikechukwu Obasi has reacted to the Supreme Court recent ruling on ADC leadership crisis in what he described as “nothing but a temporary relief” and “a sort of Greek gift,” cautioning that it is not only a greek gift but will trigger further legal battles.

In his recent update on his official X handle, Obasi Esq. wrote: “The Supreme Court Ruling is nothing but a temporary relief. a sort of Greek gift. It’s not yet over until it is over. I just hope the party uses this opportunity to reconcile their differences. It has opened a floodgate of litigation. More ADC suits will go back to Supreme Court”.

Obasi’s comments comes amid ongoing internal disputes within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which has witnessed plethora of pre-election suits filed at various courts.

His classical reference to “Greek gift” suggests he views the ruling as a decision that appears favourable victory on the part of Senator David Mark’s faction on the surface but could embodies hidden troubles capable of prolonging the crisis. Obasi urged the party to explore the window to reconcile the internal party crisis amicably, noting that the judgment “has opened a floodgate of litigation.”

The ADC’s national leadership has not reacted to this commented at press time.

Contextually “Greek gift” refers to the Trojan Horse — an apparent offering that concealed hidden dangerous intentions. In modern usage, it describes a benefit that brings unexpected troubles. This is Obasi’s latest reaction to national legal-political issues, following his recent comments on the Mene Ogidi police killing case in Delta State.
