Lawyer Sets Record Straight, Says City Boys Movement Failed in Southeast Due to Kanu’s Incarceration

Aloy Ejimakor, Special Counsel to the embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has said the “City Boys” political movement failed to gain momentum in the Southeast because of Kanu’s imprisonment.
In a post on his official X handle, Ejimakor wrote: “From my investigations, the City Boys movement quickly failed in the Southeast because vast majorities of Igbo youths are not interested in any general elections that will be held while MAZI NNAMDI KANU remains in prison. For them & for now, that is the #BigElephant in the room.”
The term “City Boys movement” referenced by Ejimakor in the post has been used on social media to be linked with youth political mobilization efforts for Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s presidential bid in the forthcoming 2027 General election
Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was jailed by the federal high court and transferred to Sokoto prison to serve his life sentence slammed on him by the court of Justice James Omotosho over terrorism-related charges. His sentencing remains a central issue in political discourse in the Southeast.
Ejimakor’s statement re-echoes how Kanu’s how ordeals facilitate mass youth political apathy in the Southeast. The Independent National Electoral Commission has not released updated voter turnout projections for the region ahead of future elections but previous projection speaks volume.
