Leo Igwe Blasts ‘Opportunistic’ Humanist Groups, Calls for Leadership Training
Foremost African Humanist Leader and scholar Dr. Leo Igwe has criticised some African humanist leaders and groups over what he described as “opportunistic” projects that are abandoned after funding is secured.
In an update on his official WhatsApp status, Igwe said: “Some African humanist leaders and groups proclaim as their activities rearing grasshoppers, soap making, tailoring, distributing agricultural products, and sanitary pads.”
He further added: “They’re opportunistic in their actions and initiatives and often abandon the work after securing a few travel scholarships and grants.”
To curtail this opportunistic approach, Igwe proposed “the establishment of a humanist leadership training” which he opined “will help reorient activists and aspirants.”
Dr. Igwe is founder of the Humanist Association of Nigeria, a board member of Humanist International, and the Director of Advocacy for Alleged Witches, who has long advocated for capacity building among African humanists.
