Nigerian humanist and human rights activist Mubarak Bala has admonished the public to cease letting emotional responses and internal divisions become instruments for terrorist groups.

In a statement on his official Facebook handle, Bala said terror groups factor in public empathy, emotional trajectory, political leanings, valor or cowardice, economic resilience, fatigue, and fears when plotting attacks. He further warned of the efforts of terrorists to influence youth through “machinations and generational indoctrination.”

“Be rational, less emotional, be unpredictable, be astute and stern, be united, be whatever, but do not allow you to be a tool factored in by your enemy,” he said.

Bala contrasted what he described as opposing approaches to child-rearing, stating: “He trains kids to hate. You train kids to love. That’s what makes the difference between the West and the Rest.”

The statement has circulated online and sparked heated discussion among commentators on security and civic resilience.
