Newly Inaugurated Friends of Abia Network FAN, Backs Governor Otti’s Reelection

The newly inaugurated support group, Friends of Abia Network, FAN, held its formal virtual inauguration on May 16, 2026, via Zoom, with members joining from across Nigeria.
In an update shared with Secular Advocacy TV News Desk by a participant Ikechukwu Obasi Esq who is a Human rights Lawyer, the Network highlighted that its objective is to acknowledge and celebrate what it described as the achievements of Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, and to support his reelection in 2027 to continue his work in the state. FAN stated that Governor Otti’s governance is “worthy of emulation” by other state leaders in the federation.
Nigeria’s political atmosphere has witnessed decades of incompetent and bad leadership. Interest groups are often formed to challenge the status quo but Alex Otti emerged 2023 to right the wrongs through competent leadership. This has necessitated the formation of Friends of Abia Network to commend his good works. This is predicted upon the fact that it is not enough to condemn bad governance. Do we also commend good governance?
The virtual meeting was anchored by David U. Nnaji. Attendees included thought leaders, strategists, policymakers, diplomats, international figures, and professionals from various fields.
In his opening remarks, FAN Director General Dr. Laz Ude Eze, a public health expert, thanked participants and noted that the Network’s vision is to foster good governance and to promote Governor Otti’s record as the best-performing governor in Nigeria. Dr. Ude Eze noted that Abia indigenes are fairly excluded from membership, stating that it would be “untenable” for citizens of Abia to serve as “friends of Abia” at the same time.
The keynote address was delivered by Evang. Ebiti Jegede, former presidential candidate and ambassador for women’s development. Speaking on “Transformative Leadership of Governor Alex Otti – A Catalyst for Nigeria’s Economic Revolution,” Jegede stated that she accepted the invitation due to the governor’s record in office. She contrasted Abia State before and under Otti’s administration and urged skeptics to visit the state to verify the changes.
Inputs were also made by participants which included Oliver Iortyange, Uche P. Okoye, Dr. Chukwudi Okebaram, Chinonso Chime, Kenechukwu Onyema, and Ikechukwu Obasi Esq. The meeting concluded with closing remarks from the Director General.
