Nigerian Humanist Faults Hajiya’s Post on Quran Recitation Over Degrees
Nigerian Humanist Okpeson Dan has criticised a Facebook post by Hajiya Habeebah Oziohu that prioritised Quran recitation over academic degrees and qualifications.
In a widely circulated controversial update on her official Facebook handle, Hajiya Habeebah Oziohu wrote: “Forget about OND,ND,HND,BSC & PHD…..if u no sabi recite Quran Na red flag #Hajiya# come in peace”
Reacting to the post, a humanist Okpeson Dan said: “This is what religion does to us, it will first negate our ability to rationalize and create a paradigm of fiction.”
Oziohu’s post dismissed Ordinary National Diploma (OND), National Diploma (ND), Higher National Diploma (HND), Bachelor of Science (BSC), and Doctor of Philosophy (PHD) and prioritises Quran recitation, stating that inability to recite the Quran is a “red flag.”
Dan, identified as a Nigerian Humanist, said religion undermines rational thinking and builds “a paradigm of fiction.”
The exchange has drawn comments on Facebook over the role of religion and formal education in Nigeria.
