Lawyer to Soludo, Igbo Leaders: Enlist Your Children First if You Want Igbo Youths in Army

Human rights lawyer Ikechukwu Obasi has urged Governor Chukwuma Soludo and other Igbo leaders sensitising Igbo youths to join the Nigerian Army to “lead by example” and enlist their children first.

In an update on his official X handle, Obasi said: “Gov. Soludo & all Igbo leaders that want Igbo youths to join the army should lead by e.g, enlist their children 1st. I feel for the Nigerian soldiers, Terrorists will kill in numbers only to be tagged ‘repentant terrorists’ after messing with the sovereign integrity(soldiers)sad.”

He further added: “Well said @AloyEjimakor. FG should extend beyond trying to recruit Igbo youths into the army and do more. My worry is they’re looking for Igbo youths as mere recruits. If Igbo youths apply for direct short service to become 2nd lieutenant would they agree? Jokers everywhere.”

Obasi’s post was made in response to comments by Aloy Ejimakor, Special Counsel to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, on Igbo recruitment into federal agencies.

He expressed concern over the killing of soldiers by the same terrorists who are later labeled “repentant terrorists” and reintegrated into the society. He also questioned whether the Federal Government would accept Igbo youths applying for officer cadet positions through Direct Short Service to become 2nd lieutenants, or if the focus is only on “mere recruits.”

The Nigerian Army conducts regular recruitment for both non-commissioned ranks and Direct Short Service Commission for graduates. There was no immediate response from Governor Soludo or the Federal Government at press time.
