Ejimakor: Extend Igbo Recruitment Push Beyond Army to FIRS, CBN, Customs, NNPC, Others 

Aloy Ejimakor, Special Counsel to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to extend efforts to recruit Igbo youths into the Nigerian Army to other federal agencies where he claims Igbos are underrepresented.

Ejimakor in an update on his official X handle wrote: “The efforts to entice reluctant Igbo youths to join the Army should be passed around to agencies like FIRS, CBN, Customs, NNPC which hardly recruit Igbos since the end of the war in 1970, to the point that a government was violently overthrown in 1975 for appointing an Igbo as NNPC GM. Igbos have institutional memory of the official redlines drawn against them in Nigeria.”

In the post, he listed the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Nigeria Customs Service, and Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) as agencies that “hardly recruit Igbos” since the Nigerian Civil War ended in 1970.

Ejimakor also referenced the 1975 coup, stating that a government was “violently overthrown” for appointing an Igbo as General Manager of NNPC. Ejimakor added that “Igbos have institutional memory of the official redlines drawn against them in Nigeria.”

The Nigerian Army has recently announced recruitment drives targeting the South-East.
