Kano AG Commends Successful Conviction of Abuja Imam for Attempted Enticement of Married Woman

The Kano State Government has secured the conviction of an Abuja-based Imam for sending obscene and indecent materials to a married woman, with the state Attorney General commending the prosecuting counsel for the successful case.

Abdulmalik Muhd Rabiu of Maraba Nyanya, Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, who serves as an Imam and teacher at an Islamiyya school in Abuja, was arraigned before the Upper Sharia Court, Kofar Kudu. The court was presided over by Honourable Justice Ibrahim Sarki Yola.

The court heard that Rabiu sent explicit images of his private parts and obscene videos to a married woman, conduct described as contrary to public morality and unacceptable under the law. He pleaded guilty to the charge.

Following his guilty plea, the court initially sentenced him to one year imprisonment. After an appeal for leniency by the defence counsel, the sentence was reviewed and reduced to one month imprisonment without an option of fine.

Reacting to the judgment in a press release dated 12th May 2026 and signed by Abubakar Tijjani Ibrahim, PhD, Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Kano State, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Kano State, Abdulkarim Kabiru Maude, SAN, said the conviction demonstrates the ministry’s commitment to enforcing justice and protecting moral values.

Maude commended K. M. Nafiu, Senior State Counsel, for his diligence and professionalism in prosecuting the matter to a successful conclusion.

He added that the Kano State Ministry of Justice, in line with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration, remains resolute in upholding the rule of law, protecting the sanctity of families, and addressing acts that undermine societal values.
