Lawyer Decries ‘Emotional Discrimination’ Against Men, Cites Roby Ekpo/ Mayowa’s Case
Human rights lawyer Ikechukwu Obasi has decried what he described as emotional discrimination against men and called for “emotional equity and justice for men,” stating that society undermines men’s pain while amplifying women’s.
In an emotional post on his official Facebook handle, Obasi referenced the case of a man identified as Roby Ekpo and wrote: “The alleged pains of this man Ekpo won’t matter to anyone but if it were a woman, social media would be on fire, with everyone trying to be one minute activist.”
Obasi further described “emotional discrimination against men” as a “topical issue nobody talks about.” He added: “Once you are born a man in Africa, you are on your own.”
Referencing a journalist’s reaction, he stated that he read journalist Geoffrey Chikwere’s reaction to the incident and “all I could do is imagine.”
“In this part of the world when you genuinely love as a man, you are tagged a simp, when you assert some authority you are tagged misogynist,” Obasi stated.
“The pain of this man resonates. When a man is the victim he is shamed, when he’s the villain the sky falls.”
Obasi further clarified that he was “not justifying gender based brutality,” but “only asking for emotional equity and justice for men.” He ended the post: “I feel for this man because his pain resonates. I come in peace.”
The specific incident referenced in the post involves Ekpo who alleged that he was deceived and betrayed by wife whom he funded overseas trip. The broken man had alleged that his wife’s supposed nextdoor neighbour abroad is actually her secret husband. Roby’s revelation in Honest Bunch Podcast has sparked heated debate and reactions. Some sympathised with him while others mocked and criticised him for ignoring obvious red-flags.
